Nicolet Plastics is excited to announce the addition of a 360-ton two-shot injection molding press at our Jackson, Wisconsin facility. This new capability allows us to help customers solve complex design challenges and bring innovative products to market more efficiently. This specialized equipment opens new possibilities for customers who need complex, multi-material components produced efficiently in a single manufacturing cycle.

What is 2-Shot Injection Molding?

Two-shot injection molding is an advanced manufacturing process that combines two different materials or colors into a single part during one molding cycle. Unlike traditional injection molding, which produces parts from a single material, two-shot molding uses specialized equipment with dual injection units to create integrated, multi-functional components.

The process works in two stages: First, the initial material is injected into the mold to form the substrate. The part is then transferred—via rotating platen or robotic system—to a second position within the same mold, where the second material is injected onto, into, or around the first. The two materials form a molecular bond as they cool, creating a single, unified component that would otherwise require assembly from separate pieces.

Key Benefits for Your Products

Common Applications & Industries

Two-shot injection molding is ideal for a wide range of products across multiple industries:

Material Capabilities

Our two-shot molding capabilities support a wide variety of material combinations. Common pairings include:

Material selection is critical to two-shot molding success—the materials must be chemically compatible to form a strong bond. Our experienced team will work with you to select the optimal material combination for your specific application, balancing performance requirements with cost considerations.

Why Choose Nicolet As Your 2-Shot Molding Partner

Two-shot molding requires specialized machinery with dual injection units and precise transfer systems. Standard injection molding presses simply can’t do this work. Our new 360-ton two-shot press gives us the capability to mold your multi-material parts correctly the first time.

Here’s what that means for your project: tighter tolerances, stronger material bonds, and consistent quality from part to part. Trying to achieve similar results by molding components separately and assembling them later introduces variables at every step—more handling, potential misalignment, inconsistent bonding, and quality issues. Purpose-built two-shot equipment eliminates those problems.

Having this capability in-house also simplifies your life. You deal with one manufacturer instead of coordinating between a molder and an assembler. That means clearer communication, faster turnaround, and one partner responsible for the final part quality.

Two-shot molding requires careful design consideration from the start. Our engineering team provides comprehensive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis to ensure your parts are optimized for the two-shot process. We’ll help you understand wall thickness requirements, material interface considerations, and design features that maximize the benefits of this technology.

Our Mountain facility maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification, and our commitment to quality extends across all operations. We apply scientific molding principles, utilizing advanced process monitoring and controls to ensure consistency and repeatability in every part we produce.

Beyond molding, Nicolet offers complementary services including insert molding, pad printing, assembly, and fulfillment programs. We can be your single-source partner for complex plastic components, reducing your vendor management requirements and streamlining your supply chain.
